The dura mater is the outermost layer of the meninges and functions to carry blood from the brain to the heart and contain the cerebrospinal fluid. The dura mater is composed of two layers known as the periosteal and meningeal layer. Endothelial cells regulate blood vessel function and serve as a selective barrier for the diffusion of cells and macromolecules into and out of the bloodstream. In addition, endothelial cells play an important role in vascular signaling, tone, remodeling, and inflammation. Dural microvascular endothelial cells (DuMEC) have been linked to migraine pathophysiology by activating and sensitizing meningeal afferents. Human DuMEC (HDuMEC) are a useful model to further elucidate the role of endothelial cells in migraine pathophysiology.
HDuMEC from ScienCell Research Laboratories are isolated from human dura mater. HDuMEC are cryopreserved at passage one and delivered frozen. Each vial contains >5 x 105 cells in 1 ml volume. HDuMEC are characterized by immunofluorescence with antibodies specific to vWF/Factor VIII and/or CD31 (PECAM). HDuMEC are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. HDuMEC are guaranteed to further expand for 5 population doublings under the conditions provided by ScienCell Research Laboratories.
Recommended Medium
It is recommended to use Endothelial Cell Medium (ECM, Cat. #1001) for culturing HDuMEC in vitro.
